Community Links

At St Margaret Clitherow there is a strong emphasis on working with the local community. We have strong links with our local parish church, Our Lady Star of the Sea in Brixham. Our parish priest, who is known to all the children, makes regular visits to the school and talks to each of the classes. Parishioners and parents are always invited to school masses and these are well attended. The school welcomes members of the parish to attend school events. The school community also attends church on special occasions during the year and supports parish events such as the Christmas Fair.

The school works closely with parents, to help them to support their children’s learning. There have been several courses held for parents focusing on literacy, maths and ICT.

The school enjoys working with members of the local community. Pupils have recently taken part in the ‘Fishstock’ Festival.

The school often links with other primary schools for sporting or musical events such as the Torbay Music Festival, held at the Riviera Centre in Torquay.

The school has close links with secondary schools in the local area and every year there is a programme of transition work for our Year 6 pupils. Our secondary school links have also enabled us to take part in a range of sporting activities, making use of local secondary school facilities and teaching expertise. We have also worked with Churston Grammar School to develop our pupils’ ICT capabilities.
