Past Pupil Success

Six Torbay AC juniors were among more than 500 entries at the Welsh Athletics Junior Grand Prix indoor athletics meeting in Cardiff – returning with nine medals between them. Within these six juniors was a past pupil, Lillian Goddard. An U17 athlete who had targeted the 300m title and some hard training sessions over the past few weeks paid off.  Lillian won the South West title with a new indoor personal best over 300m in a time of 44.80, placing third overall on the day behind two Welsh athletes. She also competed in the jumps, just missing out on the medals in the long jump with a best of 4.72m to place fourth. She was also fourth in the triple jump.

Past Pupil and SKI racer Cameron Thomas is straight into the competition season this month with his first round of races as an England squad member. Cameron left for the British Ski Academy in Les Houches on New Years Eve, which he knew well as he has trained there every year since 2010, when he was telent spotted as a 12 year old. This season Cameron has moved up a level in more ways than one and the pressure will be on him to justify his place in the England U18 squad.
Aiden Dingley who is also a past pupil, helped himself to win the Young Volunteer of the Year category by giving five hours of his time every week. Aiden volunteers with junior sessions at South Devon Gymnastics Club, and he has also taken his first level judging course this year and officiated at county and club competitions.
