January 2023
As always, the Starfish continue to amaze us with their attitudes toward their learning. We have really been enjoying the wider curriculum and within Geography have learnt so much about our world and in particular Kenya. The children have been comparing and identifying similarities and differences between their lives and those of children in the Maasai tribe.
During Science, we have been questioning, predicting, and investigating. We wanted to find out if people with bigger hands needed bigger shoes. The children approached this with such enthusiasm and they were able to come up with their own questions, ideas around how to find out, and some thoughts about how to make our testing fair. Ask them about their results!
We continue to enjoy Power Maths and the Year 2 children have been building on their prior knowledge of numbers and applying this to money. Year 1 children have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes and the Reception children have been thinking bout numbers up to 10 and one more and one less.
Our Read Write Inc Phonics programme is going well and the children are enjoying completing the phonics reading and writing elements. They are so keen to read and being able to do this independently is a real boost to their confidence.
The Reception children loved the text ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. They have explored the Artic and Antarctic and looked at the animals that live there. They have experimented with ice, thought about the seasons, and written about their favourite animal. They then went on to think about animals that hibernate. Great learning Reception children!
Thank you to all those parents that attended the after-school workshops. It was great to see you all engaging with your child’s learning and asking questions around the curriculum and the expectations.
December 2022 – Design & Technology, Winter Wonderland
Starfish children recently put their DT skills to the test. Designing, creating, and selling products they had made at our annual Winter Wonderland Market. Their selling skills were very impressive!
Well done, Starfish!
December 2022 – Our Nativity
The children in Starfish performed a ‘Fireside Nativity’ for their parents and carers. They sang beautifully and it was a lovely time to come together for Advent.
11th November 2022
The children in Starfish have been learning about the importance of Remembrance Day. Lest we Forget.
November 2022
How exciting that we are in the second half of the Autumn term, that can mean only one thing ….. Christmas is coming and singing practice for our Nativity has begun! How very exciting!
The children continue to wow us with their learning and their amazing resilience, positivity, and attitude. During maths, we have been looking at addition and subtraction and linking together all of our prior learning. For the Year 2 children those links have been fundamental in their understanding. It is amazing how articulate they are and how they can explain how they got an answer. The Year 1 children are also working hard and have been looking at part-whole models within 10 and finding totals. They are enjoying using their Power Maths books.
Our Reception children have made an amazing start to school and it is fantastic to see how independent they ae becoming. During Phonics, the children have been learning their sounds and have started to use some of those sounds to read words.
Well done Starfish!
21st October 2022
Reception children have loved getting messy and exploring pumpkins outdoors this week! We’ve discussed colour, weight, and sizes and even made potions!
September 2022 – Welcome back Starfish Class!
We really can’t believe that we are already in our fifth week of school, where does the time go? In Starfish class it has been so lovely to welcome all our new Reception children. They have settled in well and are already learning the routines and structures of school life. The Year 1 and 2 children have grown up so much over the summer holidays and it is wonderful to see them supporting and encouraging the younger ones.
We have been enjoying all aspects of our learning and the Year 1 children have particularly enjoyed having their ‘grown up’ Year 1 Power Maths books.
In English, we are loving ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ and have been creating some great descriptive sentences and thinking carefully about the characters and setting.
In History, we are really engrossed in our learning about The Great Fire of London. We have been thinking about the similarities and differences between past and present London. We have been learning about where the fire started and the effects of the fire on London.
Our new playground equipment has proven very popular and the children are really enjoying playing on it and creating pirate adventures. We have also been fortunate enough to have some lovely new resources in the classroom, including a hospital, farm, and castle. How lucky we are!
Keep working hard and supporting each other Starfish!
